how to minimize the use of electricity (or do without) a dicussion proposed by TanguyNedelec:
the use of electricity includes political, governmental, social aspects. talking about groups and saving power (i.e. switching of the lights!) that leads to the question how we can save power in artistic production: being more conscious? checking out/using new technology?
example: in most of theatres the fly bar systems have been changed to electrical systems instead of flaschenzug (translate!) - manual ones. even though you can be much more sensitive with the manual ones. stating that makes you a reactionary fool most of the time.
AnneGoldenberg: how do we put the question: should it be a moral one, or can we find "fun" ways of dealing with it? like a light switch you have to caress (ii order to make the use of lights more conscious)
OlivierHeinry: yes, that´s why we have touch screens on our i phones. in order to get closer to them...
power in theatres in not only a question of electric power, it´s a question of power (using it, having the right, the possibility to use it) centralizing it changes the hierarchy in the theatre as well
BrunoPocheron: tries to be conscious about using energy in his personal life, but working with lights he does not think about saving energy. except for being conscious.
OlivierHeinry: anyways energy will get so much more expensive, so we´ll be forced to change ways of thinking.
BrunoPocheron: there always has been pollution - it´s thousands of years.
LaurentGolon: It´ll change the aesthetics of stage production. Why not starting to deal with it now.
OlivierHeinry: there´s a lot of el consumers in theatres (and other buildings) except for light and sound: emergency lamps, fans, climatisation etc. - which are not switched off, and which block other ways of thinking: like constructing buildings with other ways of ventilation than electric.
nuclear power plants cannot be stopped: they always produce power. which has to be used.
WHY not save energy at the other ("invisible" or unnecessary) places and re-directed towards theatres so we can still have fun with electric power...
RutWaldeyer: what about the psychology of using electrical power? lot´s of light makes us happy, big sound systems mean you´re wealthy...
AnneGoldenberg: i would not lower my individual computer use when there is taken political choices of wasting a lot of power somewhere else. that´s about de-politicizing (?) individuals.
there is website where people share "rests" of their sets
MargretaAnastasova: at the balkans people share anyways, out of necessity
OlivierHeinry: wants to organize an electronic arts festival on an island without electricity "penn-ar-pixel" (that means in breton end of the world festival)
recycling computers: http://www.alis44.org/ a project in Nantes, which provides computers to people who can´t afford them, installed with linux (plus a two days workshop of how to use them and 6 months warranty)
