The small black box developped by CDS advanced technologies has been one of the central objects during the first Gangplank meeting in PACT-Zollverein Essen in july 09.
Reasons for that (precisions and corrections welcome):
- fits in a pocket
- not too expensive
- speaks several 'languages' (DMX, MIDI, TCP)
- understands several 'languages'(Hexadecimal, Serial, MIDI, TCP)
- can command 512 DMX channels
- proposes a decent graphical visualisation of light projects when one is not in a theater
It is a great tool for light designers who are not working in a well equipped theater on a regular basis and a very flexible one to be included in a computer network dedicated to control and synchronize several media in a show or an installation.
A question which arose amongst the lanbox users from the start is: how to develop a manual or more aptic way to control lights through the Lanbox.
In our first Gangplank meeting, we tried to find some answers to this question, trying as much as possible to use open source softwares (PureData for instance).
