Texts
what follows is a text proposal Anne and Conrad talked about. It is not quite clear yet whether this is actually a text that can be turned into an application for a prep meeting or whether this is just a proposal on what to do at the prep meeting. We like the title Gangplank Transfusions
The Problem
Discover methodologies that allow for an effective bi-directional knowledge transfer between artistic and technological disciplines involved in stage productions (a mutual transfusion)
Since contemporary art is much more akin to an attitude or a passion then to scientifically structured knowledge the transfer process needs to account for the fact that artistic practices and technology have fundamental structural differences. But the basic premise of gangplank is, that both artistic and technological knowledge need to be transfused in order to further both artistic research and technological development.
Possible Solutions
Applying artistic research and knowledge sharing practices to technology and technological knowledge to artistic practices
In order to develop technologies (such as the matrix software) that are useful to artists (as opposed to the traditional mode where technicians are working for artists) we propose to apply artistic research methods to technological development
- score exchanges
- group and self interviews
- dramaturgies
We also propose to instruct and empower artists to use technology like technicians by:
- enhancing end user documentation
- enhancing developer documentation to make it useful to end users
- teaching use of technological communication tools (wikis, irc, dvcs, etc)
- using the most suitable and most accessible developement tools
and to spread technological methods to artistic projects :
- agile methodologies for dramaturgy building
- feed-back on the tools while creating projects.
The Project
A combination of knowledge resources and research practices empowering groups of project members to create stage productions that do not rely on a traditional model of distribution of labor
The goal of the prep meeting is to decide on a model stage project that will be collectively developed during the main stage of the project. The stage project is not developed in order to be shown on stage but rather in order to be documented and to serve as model for future projects by members of gangplank or others interested in the gangplank model. Some of the criteria for choosing a model stage project are:
- Use of the Matrix and new features of the Matrix
- documentability
- disuse of traditional distribution of labor (no artists, no technicians, only "articians")
- simplicity, so work can also focus on documentation and software developement
Day By Day
- Day: storyline, concept for stage project, possibly selected using a small score exchange
- Day: selecting and discussing technologies needed for the project
- Day: dramaturgical aspects of the project
- Day: documentation methodologies
- Day: Evaluation of the process and generation of project description to be used as full Grundvig application
Reflexions out of Context
Creating art with technology is not only about efficiency but also about being reflexive about the process and what technology means to art.
Everything created during the Grundvig process needs to be published under a suitable free licence in order to ensure further open developement.

notes from the phone call to the national agency in germany (by rut)
it would be best to apply for learning partnerships, and, to prepare that, preparatory visits. Instead of multilateral projects or networks as you can apply for the learning partnerships decentralized, which is supposed to be much easier.
Deadline is 30th of Novembre for preparatory visits for 2012, Bruno and me volunteer for writing in Octobre. Conrad???

Example Form
This is an a grundvig preparatory visit form: example_grundvig_form.pdf
The form is in German, but the text used in it is English. To create your own form in your own language just copy / translate the text in this form into your own language form. The form sections
- B.3
- C.1.1.
- C.1.2.
- C.1.3.
need to be filled out using the name / info from your organisation.
The form section C.3.1. and subsections need to be filled out using your personal name/info as participant. Section D.1 is specific to the applying institution, you will need to come up with a text that explains the connection of gangplank with your institution.
Section G.1 is the travel details. We will still have to find a definite date for the prep meeting. Section H.1 are the travel coasts. Fill this out keeping in mind not to understate costs...

General description of Grundtvig http://ec.europa.eu/education/lifelong-learning-programme/doc86_en.htm
The types of Grundtvig related activities: http://ec.europa.eu/education/grundtvig/doc872_en.htm and I think that as a first step, we are looking for this activity : ... doing one of the following activities > Benefit from a preparatory visit
There are different kinds of preparatory visits, some are organized by Grundtvig, some are self-organized by the potential parteners.
I think we are : or creating a network ( Grundtvig actions: networks http://ec.europa.eu/education/grundtvig/doc880_en.htm ) Grundtvig networks aim to strengthen the links between the various ‘actors’ involved in adult education, to improve the quality, European dimension and visibility of activities in the field of adult learning, and to help make learning opportunities more widely known and available to people of all ages.
or creating a multilateral project ( Grundtvig actions: Multilateral Projects http://ec.europa.eu/education/grundtvig/doc880_en.htm ) Projects funded under this action enable organisations from different countries to work together, pooling their knowledge and experience, in order to innovate and improve the quality of adult learning provision in Europe.
But anyway, those projects most often start with a preparatory visit, which require to fill a general document, actually well described in the document you already printed and i think taht you will find the necessary pdf form on this page http://www.na-bibb.de/downloadcenter_468.html
